GARY Liddle wasted no time in switching his focus to Saturday’s league clash with Exeter City despite the regret of last night’s cup exit at Scunthorpe United.

Pools were beaten 2-0 in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Glanford Park.

Liddle admits that the early-season form which sees Pools unbeaten in League One had given rise to talk of an extended stay in the competition and a possible date at Wembley.

But a dismal second-half display against the Iron put paid to those hopes for at least another season.

Liddle, though, says there is no better remedy than a first home win of the season when the Grecians visit Victoria Park this weekend.

“This game on Saturday is massive because we need to get our first home win as quickly as possible,” he told SportMail.
