PAUL Murray has leapt to the defence of manager Mick Wadsworth – insisting the players were to blame for Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against Wycombe Wanderers.

The Pools boss rolled out a new 3-5-2 formation for the visit of the Chairboys as he sought a solution to two defeats on the spin.

But the system failed and that losing run was extended to three matches.

Murray, though, has revealed that the team were thrilled with Wadsworth’s gameplan when he first unveiled his ideas during the week.

And that is why the veteran midfield man says it is the players who must shoulder the responsibility for the result.”
