Hartlepool United’s Scott Flinders hopes his plumbing skills shore up leaky defence

GIVEN recent results, you’d be forgiven for thinking Scott Flinders taking up a plumbing course had something to do with his leaky defence.

The Pools goalkeeper has struggled to stem the attacking tide in the past two matches, shipping five at Walsall and two at home to Rochdale.

But Flinders isn’t using the further-education scheme to make watertight his rearguard.

Instead, the 24-year-old hopes to improve his handy work, albeit of the do-it-yourself variety.

The stopper is one of several Pools stars who have enrolled at the Hartlepool College of Further Education, spending three hours each week learning new skills.

And Flinders explained: “A few of us decided to take up courses and we’re enjoying it.”
