Hartlepool United defender Josh Nearney has joined Whitby Town on a one-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old has been with the League Two club since Under 16 level when he joined from Middlesbrough and he went on to sign a professional contract in the summer of 2014.

Nearney has been a regular in the club's reserve side ever since and made his first team debut earlier this season when he came off the bench during the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Sheffield United.

The centre-back will join the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side, who are managed by former Pools star Darren Williams.

Nearney has joined in time to feature in Saturday’s game against Matlock Town at The Turnbull Ground.

Pools have also recently loaned out midfielder Lewis Hawkins to Spennymoor Town on a three-month loan deal.

The 22-year-old previously spent time on-loan with The Brewers in February and they were keen to take him back to play a part in their Evo-Stik Division One North campaign.

Meanwhile, midfielder Kieran Green is on loan at Evostik Northern Premier Division side Frickley Athletic for a month.
