Ronnie Moore has sealed the signing of defender Andrew Boyce on a month’s loan from Scunthorpe United.

The 25-year-old met up with his team-mates at Maiden Castle today as he started a 28-day stay.

Moore told SportMail in the wake of the 1-0 win over Newport County that he was looking to add a defender on loan following the injury to Harry Worley which will keep him out for a fortnight.

“We definitely needed a centre-back in,” said Moore today.

“He played a lot of games last season for Scunthorpe. He’s experienced, he has a lot of games under his belt –- he’s big and strong, he’s 6ft3in, 6ft4in and that suits us at this level.

“He suits what we’re looking for at this present time.”

Iron manager Mark Robins is looking for Boyce to get some games under his belt.

Robins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: “We looked at the situation on its merits and the questions posed and we thought it was the right thing to do for him and us.

“Hopefully he will get some decent games in during the 28 days and under the terms of the agreement he will come back to us after that time.”

Pools had David Mirfin on loan from Scunthorpe United last season, the centre back helping Pools to pull off the great escape.
