SAM Collins admits that he will savour this season more than most – simply because it could be one of his last.
Far from retreat to the shadows, the 34-year-old will lead from the front as Pools launch their League One campaign at MK Dons on Saturday.
It’s the 17th time that Collins will embark on a new season and the defender says he’s even more excited now than he was back in the mid-90s as a rookie pro at Huddersfield Town.
“I’m as enthusiastic as ever because I know that over these next few years one of them could be my last,” he told SportMail.
“You’ve just got to try to enjoy it that little bit more because one day it’ll be all over.
“It sounds an easy thing to say but you do appreciate things more.
“When you’re young you’re going to play forever, or so you think.
“At this end of your career you know that’s not the case.
“I still feel I’ve got a good couple of seasons left in me at this level though and I think last year showed that.”
