HARTLEPOOL United transfer target Michael Brown has this afternoon signed for Sky Bet League One side Port Vale.
Pools manager Colin Cooper had identified Brown as a summer transfer target but he has decided to sign for Micky Adams’ Vale side, who play in the third tier of English football.
Hartlepool-born Brown, 37, is a combative central midfielder with a wealth of experience, having played for Premier League sides Manchester City, Tottenham and Fulham and Wigan when they were in the top flight.
Brown, who was also interesting Sky Bet League Two side Bury, also enjoyed two spells at Portsmouth and was last season playing Championship football for Leeds United.
Vale manager Micky Adams told his club’s website: “Michael will also combine playing with coaching the reserve team when fixtures permit.”
Former Premier League midfielders Jonathan Greening and David Prutton have also been heavily linked to Pools and remain on manager Cooper’s radar.
Cooper has previously told SportMail that he is looking to add one or two more experienced players to the Pools squad.
