TOMMY Miller is today set to sign for Hartlepool United following a successful spell on trial at the club.

The 35-year-old former Pools, Sunderland, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder has played in several pre-season matches and has done enough to earn a contract at Victoria Park.

Manager Colin Cooper is also hopeful of adding trialist Michael Woods onto the permanent playing staff, with the former Leeds and Chelsea midfielder impressing in training.

The Pools manager is still looking to add further players, including taking advantage of the loan market, with Boro defender Christian Burgess and Sunderland duo Scott Harrison and Mikael Mandron all being watched.

Pools start their Sky Bet League Two campaign away to Stevenage on Saturday (KO 3pm).

Speaking at this morning’s press conference, Cooper said: “We are in good shape. I am still working to get players in, signings and the like. Everyone in management is the same.

“Over the next few weeks, I’ve spoke about other clubs having their priorities and things happening on the back of that for us.

“It’s not materialised just yet for the parent clubs, so we are patient.

“I’m happy with how we are.

“We have been working on that deal and hopefully by close of play it will be done. I’m pleased with it.”
