JAMES Poole refuses to entertain the notion that Hartlepool United are underdogs going into tonight’s Carling Cup showdown against Sheffield United (kick off 7.30pm), writes CRAIG HOPE.
The Blades are slight favourites with the bookies to make it through to the Second Round of the competition.
But Poole believes that the manner in which Mick Wadsworth’s men shocked promotion-fancied MK Dons at the weekend is proof that they’ll be no pushovers this season.
“We showed on Saturday that we are a match for anyone in this league and I don’t see why Sheffield United will be any different,” said the 21-year-old, who scored during the 2-2 draw at Stadium:MK.
“Sheffield United were a Championship club last season and hit relegation trouble but it’s another chance personally to showcase my skills, and even more so as a team.
“Probably to people looking in from the outside we will be going in as underdogs but the lads don’t see it like that.
“Saturday gave us a lot of confidence and confirmed what we thought, that we’re more than capable of holding our own this season and competing with the big clubs.”
