NEALE Cooper has blasted the “ridiculous, unthinkable mistakes” which again cost his side dear at Notts County.

Pools were beaten 2-0 at Meadow Lane last night as slipshod defending once more proved their undoing, just 10 days on from the 5-0 humiliation at Crewe Alexandra.

Francois Zoko evaded his marker to head the opener on 17 minutes before Neale Bishop was afforded space to prod a second four minutes from time.

And Cooper insists he cannot tolerate it any longer.

“We just gifted them goals – it was criminal,” he said.

“We hardly get a sniff at goal in games, but every ball which comes into our box they look like scoring.

“The first goal he’s not picked up by Peter Hartley.

“People say ‘oh sorry, that was my mistake’ – cut out the mistakes, good teams don’t make mistakes.

“This is what I love about football – they make a mistake and put their hand up, ‘sorry about that, it’s my fourth mistake of the game’.

“Just do not make them. We make ridiculous, unthinkable mistakes - where does that come from in their mentality?

“It’s a bitter concern.”

Pools had been resolute at the back during Saturday’s goalless draw with Swindon Town, but that rearguard was unrecognisable against The Magpies.

“I watch the defending after the good defending at the weekend but we’re back to giving easy goals away,” Cooper went on.

“Our defenders make crucial mistakes then look outstanding – it’s like a tombola at times.

“Even the second goal was soft, a breakaway and they don’t deal with a cross into the box.

“It’s infuriating. I think ‘is that the same team I watched on Saturday?’.

“We did exactly the same as we normally do in preparation.

“And then that – unacceptable, and that’s not just the defence.”
