COLIN Cooper looks set to offer Michael Duckworth a shot at League football.
The Bradford Park Avenue defender has been on trial with Pools for the past three weeks, appearing for the senior side in that time.
Duckworth was recommended to Cooper by his manager at Bradford PA, John Deacey.
And the 20-year-old has impressed the Pools boss in both his performance and desire to win a professional contract at Victoria Park.
“I would like to think we can do something for Michael,” Cooper told SportMail.
“This time last week I couldn’t and I’ve been honest with him about things.
“But I think Michael is a good footballer who deserves his chance in League football.
“We’re looking for good footballers, and he is.
“His manager told me that and I’ve been impressed.”
The right-back has been travelling to Maiden Castle of his own accord each day from his Yorkshire home, and Cooper went on: “At the moment he’s paying his own way to come and train every day.
“He went to watch York City at the weekend as well, knowing we’ve got them coming up and hoping he might be in the club.
“But the fact he’s paying his own way and watching football when he’s not here shows he is someone who really wants his chance.”
