PAUL Murray has been released from Hartlepool United.

The club and the midfielder – player of the year last season – have reached an agreement which sees his contract cancelled with immediate effect.

SportMail reported earlier this month that Murray was set to move on with manager John Hughes keen to free funds for new signings.

The 36-year-old will now begin the search for a new club having also expressed a desire to enter into coaching.

Pools chief executive Russ Green said: “We’d like to thank Paul for all his efforts since he joined the club.

“He’s always given 100 per cent in everything he’s done so he moves on with our blessing and our sincere best wishes.

“I’m sure that if he puts in the same amount of dedication and commitment he’s shown here in the last two and a half years that he will make a massive success of whatever he whatever chooses to do in the future.”
