COLIN Cooper has revealed that several of his transfer targets could be on display at Victoria Park tomorrow afternoon – in the colours of Middlesbrough.
The Pools boss welcomes his former club to Clarence Road (kick-off 3pm) with the new season now just a fortnight away.
Cooper is still desperate to bring new faces to the Vic before his side travel to Rochdale for the campaign curtain-raiser.
He has spoken to Boro boss Tony Mowbray this week with a view to securing the services of some of his fringe players.
For now, though, the Riverside chief is reluctant to allow any squad members to leave Teesside.
That being the case, Cooper could well get the chance to run the rule over some of his targets this weekend.
“I would love to think Middlesbrough could include a couple of lads we’ve got our eye on,” he told SportMail today.
“But it’s hard to say one way or the other at this stage.
“Those lads that we’d like are still part of Tony’s plans at this present time.
“Whether that changes this week or next week, only Tony can dictate that.
“But we’ve made our feelings clear, as we have done with Sunderland and Newcastle this week, and they are all keen to help.
“So hopefully the players we want to bring in, they are willing to let us have.”
To date, only winger Jack Compton has been recruited and further incomings could well hinge on outgoings.
Cooper, though, says he is spreading his net wider than the North-East.
“I’ve had conversations with at least eight or nine managers over the past few days, both from our area and beyond,” he went on.
“These are people who would like to help Hartlepool succeed - we have to tap into that.
“We’re trying to persuade them to let us bring the players we want to the club.
“That might give us the quality we’re after as well as trying to find one or two permanents if we can.”
