JAMES Poole has put himself right in the frame for a first-team recall after firing four goals for Hartlepool United’s reserves.
On the same day that Mick Wadsworth told SportMail he was looking to make changes ahead of this weekend’s visit of Wycombe Wanderers, Poole served a resounding reminder as to his talents during the 5-0 win over Rotherham United.
Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Notts County, and the woeful nature of the performance, forced Wadsworth into promising a shake-up of his selection for Saturday’s home clash with the Chairboys.
And after this four-goal haul Poole will almost certainly be thrown a starting jersey for only the second time in League One this season.
Second-string boss Micky Barron said: “The gaffer said to the lads ‘play your way into the first-team’ – and a few of them have definitely given him something to think about.
“James Poole is the obvious one and he scored four great goals.
“He was a threat throughout the game and took his goals extremely well.
“But I must say it was a tremendous team performance from all of the lads.
“It was the response we were looking for because Sunday was disappointing for everyone at the club.
“But the lads have gone out there and given everyone a lift and they’ve done exactly what myself and the gaffer asked of them.”
