JACK Baldwin always believed there was a place for him in the professional game.

Within just 10 months the teenager has been catapulted from university-bound student to one of the most promising youngsters in League One.

Baldwin, still just 18, has won glowing praise from management and team-mates alike in recent weeks with a string of mature performances which have belied his tender years.

But the Kent-born starlet says he never doubted his ability to make the step up from non-league to the full-time ranks.

“I always thought I would make it and believed there was a place for me somewhere in the professional game,” he told SportMail.

“I have worked really hard to get here. When all my mates were going out I would stay in and go out running by myself.

“When the chance came last summer it was like a dream come true, but I always had confidence that it would come.

“That was just the start, though and thankfully, this season I think I’ve improved and moved on again.”
