JOHN Hughes is hoping that Hartlepool United’s relegation to League Two can prove the start of a new era for the club.
Rather than dwell on the disappointment of demotion, the Scot is already hatching a plan to rebuild his playing squad ahead of next season’s assault on League Two.
Initial talks between Hughes and chief executive Russ Green have already taken place, and the former is hoping the latter can “work his magic” in helping attract players to the club.
“Maybe relegation is the best thing,” put Hughes, while still keen to stress the upset of this week’s events.
“Maybe it gives us a reality check and brings us closer together.
“We don’t want relegation but you have to face up to it.
“We have to sit down and be calculated and see what we do for the future.
“Football does evolve, I will say that.
“I would like to think we can add a few players in the close-season.
“Having spoken to Russ I hope he can work his magic and we can bring in a few to help the boys along.”
