JOHN Hughes has identified the players who he wants to spearhead next season’s challenge - now he says he needs the help to bring them to Hartlepool United.

In Yogi’s mind, the recruitment process for next year started when relegation to the bottom tier was confirmed last week.

But now he says he needs the club’s hierarchy to “trust” his judgement and allow him to bring as many as seven or eight players to the Vic in the close season.

“You have to plan ahead and I put every trust in Russ Green to go and do that,” the Pools gaffer told SportMail.

“I want to bring a good few players here, not one or two. I’m a football guy, I need a good seven or eight to put into the good stuff that we’ve got here.

“Football evolves, that’s what we need to do.

“But I need help, I can’t do it myself, I need the help.

“That’s where Russ Green comes in and I have every trust in him to get the work done and get the players and help me along to bring the kind of player I want to bring in.

“I’ve got them all identified, so hopefully we don’t miss out, hopefully there’s a trust that they can recognise that I can spot a player and hopefully they can get it done.”
