EVEN though Kelly is a man of words, allegedly, I’m not sure where envy meets jealousy.

But, the truth is I am probably guilty of both where this man is concerned: Nick Loughlin.

I have nowt personal againt Nick, on the contrary I like the fella.

Or, perhaps that should read “liked”.

Nick, you will all know, not only covers Pools home and away for the Northern Echo, but also is the expert summariser on BBC Tees for their away-match commentaries, alongside Ivan ‘Orrrrsssstin” Ash.

He’s a first-class journalist and sports editor and think, I could be wrong, that only that doyen of the Victoria Park press box, ‘King’ Arthur Pickering has covered more Pools games than him.

But you will not be seeing his name or hearing his dulcet tone for a week or three.

He’s in Australia with the Barmy Army, watching the Ashes Series, the jammy so-and-so.

Nick has a Poolie flag with him the size of a small country so we may get to see him over the first two Test matches.

Kelly’s Eye can’t believe he’s missing Pools but let’s weigh up the options.

A cold and wet night at Gigg Lane? Or a seat and a few cold tinnies at the Ashes?

Loughlin, you are a lucky, lucky man.
