Ronnie Moore hopes the ‘Liverpool factor’ may assist Hartlepool United in the League Two clash at Victoria Park.

Carlisle United have not won in League Two this season – three draws from four games have left them in 20th.

It’s a great position for their club, they’ve had a fantastic result and draw

But the Cumbrians enjoyed a red-letter-day this week when they upset QPR in the Capital One Cup, their 2-1 win at Loftus Road setting up a dream trip to Liverpool in round three.

Moore says the prospect of an evening at Anfield could work one of two ways – Carlisle’s players could be desperate to impress Keith Curle to win a place in the cup team or deter them from going in where it hurts against Pools.

“It’s a cat and mouse situation, isn’t it?” said Moore.

“It’s a great position for their club, they’ve had a fantastic result and draw.

“All the players will be wanting to play in that match, but the thing is, when a draw like this happens, there are one or two players who may not be putting their foot in so it could work in our favour .

“Sometimes, and they don’t do it on purpose, there’s a 50-50 which might go the the opposition way because they are frightened to pick up a knock, it’s human nature, isn’t it?

“One or two of our lads might remind one or two of them what game is coming up and they will have to be careful!”

But Moore added: “Something like this an be a distraction, but it could go the other way.

“As a manager you say to your players that if you want to play then you have to perform.”
