TWO goals from Ian Moore helped Hartlepool United record their “best result of the season” so far – a convincing 4-2 win over Leyton Orient.
That was the view of manager Danny Wilson, who was over the moon with the dismantling of the League One leaders.
A brace from Moore added to strikes from James Brown and Andy Monkhouse to cap a fine trip south for Pools.
The victory saw Wilson’s side rise to within three points of top spot.
Speaking to SportMail after the match, Wilson laid down a challenge to his side – to maintain the high standards.
The two goals from Moore came as a surprise to Pools fans, as he was hooked at half-time of the previous match against Swindon Town, and his place was under threat from Australian legend Joel Porter.
Despite that stinker, Wilson kept faith with the striker and he repaid him with two goals against Orient.
Imagine if the present Pools squad had a striker of Porter’s calibre in the team, never mind on the bench!
Victory over Orient set Pools up nicely for back-to-back home games against Walsall and Carlisle.
Wilson said: “I think it was the best performance of the season for us because we kept the ball so well and got the goals so well to go with it.
“We have dominated and really set the standards.
“Overall we passed them to death, it was a great performance and we were very clinical,” added Wilson, who also praised the overall performance by striker Moore.
What Pools fans would give for a similar performance and result away to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
