MICHAEL Woods says he is “determined to come back stronger” after a successful operation on a dislocated ankle and fractured fibula.

The Hartlepool United midfielder suffered the serious injury, which will keep him out for the season, in the 1-0 win over Wimbledon at Victoria Park.

He had an operation on Sunday and took to Twitter to thank fans for their support.

Woods tweeted: “Successful surgery on a broken leg and dislocated ankle.

“Want to say a massive thank you to everyone for there messages.

“The support from everyone connected at hufc has been unbelievable.

“Determined to come back stronger.”

The 24-year-old signed for Pools last summer under then boss Colin Cooper but struggled to hold down a regular place in the side until Ronnie Moore took charge in December.

He has been the team’s star performer in recent weeks and his absence from the side is a major blow.
