RONNIE Moore has confirmed he has tried to re-sign Middlesbrough striker Charlie Wyke on loan from Middlesbrough.

The Championship striker spent three months on loan at the struggling Sky Bet League Two club earlier this season, scoring four goals, and the club has always been keen to bring him back if possible.

But Moore said the striker is being guided in a different direction by his agent.

He said: “We spoke to Middlesbrough and have been desperate to get Charlie Wyke back in, but at this moment in time his agent is guiding him in a different direction.

“He would be a hell of a signing for us, but it won’t happen at this moment in time.”

Meanwhile, the Pools boss is still hopeful of getting in a new striker before the trip to Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Saturday. It is a crunch match with Pools nine points adrift of third-bottom Rovers in Sky Bet League Two.

Moore, speaking at this morning’s press conference, said: “We are still trying to get players in, you would not believe if I showed you the list of players, managers and agents we are talking to over the last two weeks – it’s just embarrassing that we can’t get the experience in.

“There’s kids out there, but that’s a massive gamble.

“We need experience and I’m hopeful we might get one in for Saturday, it will be a striker with a bit of luck but we will know more today.”

Travis Cooper, an Australian Under-23 striker, who has been playing in Holland is currently training with Pools.

Training was held at Billingham Town’s ground, in Bedford Terrace, as the pitches at Maiden Castle, in Durham, were frozen.

Meanwhile, Pools have no new injury concerns ahead of the trip to Prenton Park.

Tommy Miller (calf) is still out while Stuart Parnaby (knee) is out for the season.

Tranmere boss Micky Adams could give a first start to winger Jennison Myrie-Williams - who Pools tried to sign on loan - after he joined the club on loan from Scunthorpe United.

Recent signings Lee Molyneux and Rob Taylor are also in line to feature again but defender Marcus Holness is out after injuring knee ligaments.
