Hartlepool United’s players were put through their paces in the gym before heading home following the “nightmare” of their Newport County postponment.

Boss Ronnie Moore and assistant Sam Collins decided Pools needed a session after the loss of their third Lewague Two match in a row.

That’s going to be five games in hand we’ve got but it’s about points on the board and we’d rather be playing

Newport v Pools was called off early this morning with Rodney Parade waterlogged.

Pools fitness guru Craig Hubbard had the Pools players in the hotel gym before the squad headed back to the North-East.

“We’re lucky that the facilities we have here are first class,” said Moore.

“We’ve done some spinning with them in the gym then we’ll do some boxing and core work so it’s not like we’re just going to get on the bus and go home.”

Moore said he was desperate for today’s six-pointer to have beaten the weather.

“It’s a nightmare for us,” Moore said in an interview with Pools’ website.

“We travelled for six and a half hours down here yesterday and then got a phone call at 8am this morning so it’s very disappointing.
