A poor first half – Pools trailed 1-0 to a goal by ex-loan man Ryan Donaldson – was followed by an encouraging second half.

Brad Walker hammered in a 59th-minute equaliser but Harrison Dunk headed in a Cambridge winner with three minutes left.

A disappointing finale but promise was there.
