MICK Wadsworth hailed match-winners Nobby Solano and Evan Horwood after their “goal-of-the-season contenders” sealed Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Bournemouth, writes CRAIG HOPE.
Pools were a goal down entering the break when Solano swept an unstoppable 25-yard free-kick into the top corner to level matters.
And that was how the score stayed until Horwood, on for Solano as a second-half substitute, leathered the winner three minutes from time, a goal made to look all the more stunning as it crashed into the back of the net via both crossbar and post.
“They were two quality strikes,” Wadsworth told SportMail after guiding his side to third in League One.
“That’s what Nobby does in training every day and Evan likewise.
“Evan has incredible volleying technique, it was a super goal and from that sort of position I see him do it quite regularly – it was a wonder goal.
“Nobby has had two or three free-kicks this season, a couple have gone in the wall and another one just past the post, but nothing like that.
“There was a big defensive wall so that helped him as he could get the ball over and around it.
“But as soon as it left his foot, I knew it was a goal. That’s the quality he has – he’s unerring.
“They were a couple of top, top goals and real goal-of-the-season contenders.
“But there’s been some fantastic goals this season and it shows the confidence we have.”
