DESPITE recent defeats, Sam Collins insists Hartlepool United are only looking in one direction in the League One table, writes CRAIG HOPE.

The back-to-back losses against Sheffield Wednesday and Notts County brought to an end Pools’ nine-game unbeaten run.

That impressive start had confounded bookmakers’ predictions of a season-long struggle at the wrong end of the the third-tier ladder.

And, while recent results have slowed that early-season progress, skipper Collins maintains Pools are fully focussed on regaining their previously unlikely play-off berth.

“We don’t think about being safe by whatever time next year,” he told SportMail.

“Relegation was something we never entertained and we’re only looking in one direction.

“We want to kick on and that’s the aim for everyone - players, staff and the crowd.

“With the crowds we are getting now we need to keep them behind us because they’ve been magnificent so far.”
