HARTLEPOOL United face a trip to Barnsley in the third round of the FA Cup if they can overcome Coventry in the second round replay.
Colin Cooper’s side were the second ball out in today’s draw.
With the Premier League teams coming into the competition at this stage, Pools fans may well have been dreaming of a trip to Old Trafford or the Emirates.
Pools booked a spot in the draw after a resurgent second half performance earned a well deserved 1-1 draw with Coventry City at Victoria Park yesterday.
The home side looked the most likely to win the game in the latter stages but the Sky Blues hung on meaning the teams will go again later this month.
While Pools face a potential away trip in the next round if they were to cause an upset in the replay, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Newcastle were all drawn at home.
Middlesbrough will welcome Premier League side Hull City while Newcastle and Cardiff City go head to head in an all-Premier League clash.
Sunderland will welcome regional neighbours Carlisle.
The games wil be played on the weekend of January 4 and 5
