Ronnie Moore couldn’t have asked “for any more” after watching his Hartlepool United side beat Morecambe 2-0 on the opening day of the new League Two season.

But he has injury concerns, with Trevor Carson facing up to three weeks out with a hairline fracture on his toe.

While Dan Jones (back), Brad Walker (thigh) and Jordan Richards also all missed the win at Victoria Park.

Billy Paynter and Rakish Bingham scored the goals and Moore was pleased with his side’s performance, lining up in an attacking 4-3-3 formation.

Moore said: “Clean sheet, three points, we can’t ask for any more to be fair.

“We were lucky at times, but you create your own luck.

“From back to front were were too spaced out at times, but it’s about winning.

“No-one remembers how we played, but let’s hope for many more to come.”

Moore thought his side outplayed Morecambe first half, with The Shrimps enjoying more possession and chances after the break.

Pools were forced into a late change of formation given the injuries to Moore’s squad.

Moore added: “We changed to three up front and it caught up with us later on in the second half, there’s things to work on but it was promising.

“We rode our luck a bit then they hit the bar and our keeper made a great save to keep it out.

“We will play worse and win, play better and lose.

“Pleasing thing, as always, was a clean sheet.

“The keeper was on top form and with that sort of effort and work we will be good.

“Billy did well up front, top drawer and that’s how you lead the line up front as a striker.”

Pools travel to Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
