Michael Woods makes his first start in six months this afternoon, when Hartlepool United take on Gateshead in the latest pre-season friendly.

The ex-Leeds United and Chelsea youth has been out of action since the end of February when he dislocated his ankle and fractured his fibula during the League Two win over Wimbledon.

He made a 15 minute sub appearance against Scunthorpe United in midweek and has now been handed his first start.

The game takes place at the International Stadium (KO 3pm).

Triallist Alex Whittle is given another chance to impress against The Tynesiders.

He will start at left wing-back, with Pools again lining up in a 3-5-2 formation.

Former Leeds United man Zac Thompson, 22, is included on the Pools bench. The former Everton youth, who has had a loan spell at Bury, can play in central midfield and also at right back.

Admission is £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £3 for Under 16s with tickets available on the turnstiles at The International Stadium prior to kick-off.

Pools: Carson, Magnay, Harrison, Worley, Jones, Whittle, Woods, Featherstone, Walker, Bingham, Paynter.

Subs: Bartlett, Duckworth, Thompson, Richards, Parnaby, Bates, Oates, Fenwick, Nelson-Addy, Smith, Oyenuga.
