FORMER Hartlepool United striker and promotion hero Bobby Cummings has collapsed and died at the age of 72.
Bobby was a vital part of the 1968 promotion-winning side after manager Gus McLean bought the centre forward from rivals Darlington at the start of the season.
The ex-Newcastle player was struggling to get a game at Feethams and McLean persuaded him to move up the road to the Victoria Ground.
He helped the team finish third in the Fourth Division for the third promotion of his career after helping Newcastle up to the First and Darlington up to the Third.
The Ashington-born player started his career at Aberdeen after working as a miner into his mid 20s.
His goal scoring record at Pools, where he ended his career, was 12 goals in 48 appearances.
Hartlepool United have expressed their condolences towards Bobby's family.
