CHARLIE Wyke is hoping he will return to Middlesbrough as a Premier League footballer come May.
For now, the Pools loanee is focused on the club’s League One survival quest and he has been instrumental in recent back-to-back victories.
But Wyke admits he is keeping a keen eye on the fortunes of his parent club as they bid for a return to the top flight after a four-year absence.
“Hopefully Boro will be promoted this season and I can be in and around it next year,” the 20-year-old told SportMail, Boro currently lying sixth in the Championship.
“I’ve supported them all of my life and I would love to see them promoted back to the Premier League.”
Wyke secured a season-long extension to his loan stay last month.
He has won a regular place in the side under John Hughes and admits that was key in staying on at the Vic.
“It was a relief to get is sorted until the end of the season,” he went on.
“When you’re playing professional games it’s so good for you, so the coaches at Middlesbrough were happy to let me stay.
“Every game I learn something new.”
Wyke, however, is a little frustrated by his goals return.
Indeed, he has just one from 13 appearances.
And the burly frontman continued: “It was a relief to get off the mark (in the 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury Town) but I need to build on it.
“My family were all proud of me and it was a great feeling, that first senior goal.
“I’m a goalscorer and I always have been, it just hasn’t happened as much as I’d like and I’m still getting used to playing at senior level.
“Even though I’m not getting loads of chances I feel like the goals will still come – I might just have to be a bit more clinical!”
