Aberdeen pull out of race for Pools star
A POTENTIAL hurdle to Hartlepool United's pursuit of Evan Horwood has been removed after Aberdeen pulled out of the running for the left-back.
Free agent Horwood is expected to start for Pools in tomorrow's clash with Leeds United despite not yet agreeing terms over a contract at Victoria Park.
On-trial trio Horwood, Paul Murray and Fabian Yantorno have held discussions with director of sport Chris Turner this week over permanent moves to the club after impressing in three weeks of pre-season training with Pools.
Turner remains hopeful that deals will be completed for the trio early next week as Pools finally bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.
One possible stumbling block over Horwood's move to his hometown club
had been interest from Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen.
The 24-year-old spent a day training with the Dons prior to Pools' tour of Holland and held talks with manager Mark McGhee.
But the potential contract that was mooted to Horwood was not a lucrative one and the ex-Sheffield United and Carlisle defender was always intent on joining Pools.
Aberdeen have now admitted defeat in the chase for Horwood with McGhee concentrating on deals for fellow left-back trialists Robbie Williams and Grant Basey.
McGhee said: "We looked at Horwood a few weeks ago but I said I wanted to have a look at Robbie Williams and Grant Basey.
"Therefore I am not sure Evan Horwood is someone we need to go back to."
