Glove story for new Pools keeper
ONE look at Hartlepool United was enough to convince Scott Flinders that Victoria Park was the place to revive his career.
Flinders has been made Pools' first-choice keeper and will meet his team-mates for the first time when the squad start pre-season training tomorrow.
The 23-year-old became Chris Turner's fifth capture of the summer following the signing of defenders Neil Austin and Peter Hartley, midfielder Leon McSweeney and former hero Adam Boyd.
Flinders believes his move to the Vic will be good for both him and the club.
After making a bright start to his career with Barnsley and Crystal Palace, Flinders has spent much of the last few years out on loan at Gillingham, Brighton, Yeovil and Falkirk before being shown the door at Selhurst Park.
"I came up to Hartlepool the week before I signed," said Flinders.
"I really liked what I saw and I liked the plans the gaffer told me about.
"I was told to go home and have the weekend to sleep on it.
"But, to be honest, I'd made up my mind when I was looking around the
place.
"Moving here is the ideal next step for my career.
"The last three years have been tough for me being out on loan.
"I've felt like Alan Partridge, living out of a hotel all the time!
"I have been out on loan and played games, but coming to Hartlepool is a fresh start for me and at a club which is ambitious."
