LUKE James admits that Saturday’s double blast in the 4-0 victory over Carlisle United was even better than his stunning debut strike – but it still all feels like a dream to the teenager, writes CRAIG HOPE.

It was a case of déjà vu for the 17-year-old when he returned to the home dressing room to be met with applause and a standing ovation from his senior comrades.

That reception was reward for a pair of goals and a man-of-the-match display which sealed Pools’ biggest win of the season.

And James – who dedicated his goals to sister, Rebecca who celebrated her 21st birthday on Saturday – reflected: “It was another great afternoon and everything seemed to work again.

“It was a great result and it was even better than the last game (against Rochdale).

“I’m still not getting used to it though – it still feels like a dream.

“The lads gave me another round of applause when I got in the dressing room and the youth-team lads were waiting for me on the sidelines as well.

“That will never get boring – I hope I’m applauded into the dressing room every week.

“My mam and dad were there as well and I managed to find them in the crowd when I scored the first.

“I have to mention my sister, Rebecca. It was her 21st birthday and she said if I score I had to celebrate for her, so that was nice.

“Two of my best mates from Amble travelled all the way down on the train to come and watch me as well and that was great – it was just a brilliant day again.”
