Hartlepool United’s Tony Sweeney says his brace against Notts County was ‘payback for a spanking’

TONY Sweeney admits his goals in the 3-0 win over Notts County were “payback” for the “spanking” Hartlepool United took in the reverse fixture on national television.
It was back in October that Pools put in their worst performance of the season in front of the live Sky Sports cameras as the hosts eased to a 3-0 victory.
Sweeney was embarrassed by that performance, but he believes Saturday’s comprehensive success – which rocketed Pools to ninth in the table – has more than made amends for the Autumn no-show at Meadow Lane.
“It’s a bit of payback for the spanking we got on Sky earlier in the season,” he told SportMail today after Pools made it three wins from four on home soil.
“Winning is a habit. It’s good to get it back and we owed them one as they embarrassed us at their place.”
