NEALE Cooper’s striker search is continuing – for now.

The Pools boss has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his attacking options, with the arrival of a loan frontman or possibly a free agent.

But, having watched Pools plunder four goals during Saturday’s demolition of northern neighbours Carlisle United, Cooper has challenged his current players to persuade him to abandon his transfer trawl.

“The striker search is still on, we need options,” he told SportMail today.

“I get asked that question all the time about a striker, but I said to the players again that it’s up to them to make me not go out and get someone.

“They read I’ve seen this game and that game, but when I’ve gone and looked, they aren’t as good as what I’ve got here – but you can always strengthen.

“It’s about finding that right player.

“If the players here show me that they’re better than what’s available, then so be it.”

This evening sees the close of the January transfer window.

That, though, is not a pressing issue for Pools, given they will only have to wait one week before the loan window reopens.
