Pools star will take scrappy win at Yeovil

ANDY Monkhouse today claimed Hartlepool United's relegation scrap performances are irrelevant if they get the points needed to survive.

Pools head to Yeovil Town tomorrow (kick-off 3pm) desperate for something more to show for their efforts on the road than just plaudits.

Chris Turner's have performed admirably in their last four away games at Millwall, Norwich, Bristol Rovers and Charlton but have not been able to prevent Pools' losing streak on their travels extending to eight games.

Monkhouse doesn't believe Pools were spectacular in their 3-0 Victoria Park win over Southend last weekend.

But the 29-year-old knows how important it is for Pools to get results at this stage of the season with Turner's men lying six points above the drop zone ahead of tomorrow's game.

Monkhouse, who returned to the starting line-up against Southend after a two-game ban, said: "Everyone knew how big the game was last Saturday.

"It was about time we didn't play so well and came away with the points.

"I think that was the case against Southend.

"We've played a lot better than that in the last six or seven games but we got the goals at the right time and Roy (O'Donovan) got his hat-trick which was different class.

"You look at some of the teams up at the top and they don't play unbelievable football.

"But they get the wins.

"You need to find a happy medium of playing well and getting results. I know what I'd rather have.

"We've got to beat the teams in or around us and if that means playing poorly for 80 or 90 minutes and scoring in the last minute, then so be it.

"There's 12 games left now and no matter how well you play, you need to be picking up points."
