Pools boss could offload strikers

CHRIS Turner could send his surplus strikers out on loan after admitting he is struggling to include them in Hartlepool United's new system.

Pools will continue with their 4-5-1 formation both at non-league South Shields tonight (kick-off 7.30pm) and in Saturday's Victoria Park friendly against Championship new boys Leeds United.

But the lone striker system leaves little room for Pools' abundance of forwards to feature unless they are able to show their flexibility in one of the two wide positions.

Pools currently have seven strikers on their books – Denis Behan, Armann Bjornsson, Adam Boyd, James Brown, Billy Greulich, Colin Larkin and Michael Mackay – while Andy Monkhouse and trialist Fabian Yantorno have both featured as the central striker in the first two pre-season games.

Director of sport Turner knows his fringe strikers need regular football and is considering using the loan market to keep them sharp.

Turner said: "We have got too many strikers.

"It is difficult when you have got these pre-season games to give all the strikers in the squad some minutes.

"The loan market is an avenue we will explore in the coming week or two, trying to loan people out to League Two and below to get them regular football."
