Pools new Norwegian signing to join Dutch trip
HARTLEPOOL United will attempt to fly new signing Jon André Fredriksen to their Dutch training camp when the Norwegian completes his transfer early next week.
Left winger Fredriksen will become Pools' sixth signing of the summer when he make the move to Victoria Park after playing his final game for Norwegian second division club Sarpsborg 08 on Sunday.
Pools head to Holland on Sunday for their week-long pre-season tour to the Netherlands based at the KNVB Dutch national training camp, in Zeist.
They will attempt to get Fredriksen to Holland in time to take part in training and he could even feature in their second pre-season friendly against SC Cambuur on Wednesday.
Pools have yet to finalise Fredriksen's transfer but confirmed their interest last night after news of the deal was broken in the Norwegian press when Sarpsborg director Bjorn Inge Nilsen revealed the 27-year-old was set to move to England.
"The English club (Pools) wanted him earlier this week to be with them for the start of the season," said Nilsen.
"We wanted Jon Andre to play in the game against Sogndal before he leaves the club.
"It has been agreed with Hartlepool that after the match on Sunday he will travel to England to start with his new club."
Sources in Norway suggest the fee involved for Fredriksen is not a hefty one, about 8,000, with Sarpsborg reportedly on the verge of going into administration.
SportMail understands Fredriksen is one of the two players Chris Turner revealed earlier in the week that he was on the verge of signing.
The move for the second player is thought to have hit a setback though and his transfer is not imminent.
The identity of the player remains unclear although it is not now thought to be Fredrikstad's tough-tackling Australian central midfielder Kasey Wehrmann.
Turner watched Fredrikstad against SK Brann in the Norwegian league on Monday night, where Wehrmann reportedly impressed.
But it is now understood Turner was watching an SK Brann player.
Brann midfielder Hassan El Fakiri could well prove to be the mystery man, with Turner still targeting an experienced holding player.
The 32-year-old Moroccan-born player, who has won seven caps for Norway, has played for Lyn, Brann and Rosenborg in Norway and been a success overseas with Borussia Mnchengladbach and Monaco.
"I've been out to Norway a number of times in the last few months to watch games in the two top divisions over there just to get a feel for the players and the level," Turner told the club's official website.
"Jon Andre is a very energetic player and could provide us with some good competition down the left side so we're interested.
"We need somebody on that side to challenge Andy Monkhouse following Matty Robson's decision to leave so it's an area I've been looking at for a while."
