SAM Collins insists Hartlepool United are now looking in only one direction, having clawed themselves into the top half of League One, writes CRAIG HOPE.

Pools were as low as 16th last month, having squandered the play-off standing their club-record start to the campaign had afforded.

A run of seven straight home defeats led to the sacking of manager Mick Wadsworth in December and two further losses deepened the sense of crisis.

For the first time since the opening day of the season Pools slid closer to the relegation zone than they were promotion territory.

But now, under new boss Neale Cooper, Collins and co are four unbeaten and following Saturday’s 4-0 hammering of Carlisle United, they eased into 10th position.

And Collins told SportMail: “Look at the league – one win can take you up four or five places.

“There are four or five who are pulling away, but if we can get that run of games like we did at the start of the season then you never know where you’ll end up.

“We want to look up and not worry about what is below us.

“Let’s keep building and improving and see where we end up.

“But we’re looking up now and we’ve got to be positive.”
