Sixth signing for Pools?

HARTLEPOOL United's returning players may not have to wait too long to be joined by a sixth new signing.

The Pools squad return to work at their Maiden Castle training ground tomorrow with five new boys bolstering the ranks ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Adam Boyd, Leon McSweeney, Peter Hartley, Neil Austin and Scott Flinders will meet-up with their new team-mates for the first time while Chris Turner is close to completing a sixth new signing.

That deal could be signed and sealed by the end of the week and the director of sport is also looking at a further two potential new players, thought to be Norwegians.

Turner said: "We are working on one or two things and we might have something in the next two or three days.

"There are a couple of others that might be a bit longer."

While Turner repeatedly stated he wanted all his new signings in place by the time the squad returned for pre-season training on July 1, he has at least formed the backbone of his side for next season.

Pools' transfer dealings are more advanced than the majority of the other sides in League One as Turner looks to reshape a team which finished just a point above the drop zone last season.

"We have got the majority of players in which is what I wanted," said Turner.

"You have got to be realistic about signing people because there will always be players that come and go after you start pre-season training."

Turner is also on the verge of adding to his backroom staff and is expecting to unveil a new goalkeeping coach by tomorrow.

The experienced coach will replace George Wood, who joined former Pools boss Danny Wilson at Swindon Town last week.
