ONSIDE: Hartlepool United boss Yogi wants to chat

editorial image

IT’S good to talk.

Not that there are many positives to talk about at the moment when it comes to all things Hartlepool United.

But at least John “Yogi” Hughes is trying his utmost to communicate with supporters and outline his vision by looking to introduce fans forums.

For that he has to be commended.

It will be interesting to see how often the forums are held, if they are given the green light, and what format they will take.

But one thing is guaranteed, it will certainly be a lively event.

With the team rooted to the foot of League One, there is certain to be some forthright views expressed by fans but he looks like the kind of guy who will take it on the chin.

This year’s AGM, which usually gives shareholders and fans the rare opportunity to ask questions of chairman Ken Hodcroft, has been axed to cut costs.

So the forum offers the only real opportunity for supporters to ask direct-questions of the first-team coach.

Hughes was recently quoted as saying: “I want everyone at this club pulling in the same direction and the forum would help with that.”

You can’t argue.

The way things are, Pools are plummeting towards League Two and the only way the situation will turn around is if everyone unites and pulls together, both players and supporters.

Hughes seems determined to turn the club around and he must be given time to carry out a rebuilding job if we are relegated this season.

The Scot describes us fans as the “lifeblood” and seems determined to build a bond and to get his ideas across.

I for one welcome the transparency and we shall wait and see whether these forums get the green light.
