LIVERPOOL’S Philippe Coutinho is pushing for a return at St James’s Park – where he wreaked havoc last season.

The Brazilian midfielder, outstanding in the club’s 6-0 win over Newcastle United in April, is due to return to training ahead of Saturday’s meeting between the two sides.

Glen Johnson, Aly Cissokho and Joe Allen are also pencilled in to return to Brendan Rodgers’s squad for the weekend.

Coutinho has been out since mid-September, when he suffered a shoulder which needed surgery.

Defender Johnson and full back Cissoko (both ankle), are already back in training, while Joe Allen (hamstring) isn’t far behind them.

Rodgers said: “Aly has trained and he should be fine and fit for Newcastle, and likewise Joe.

“Glen’s out on the field, and hopefully he’ll be ready to come back.”

Allen added: “The plan is a few days (training) leading up to Newcastle. Hopefully, I’ll be available.”
