FINALLY Adam Clayton is a Middlesbrough player with Boro’s Jacob Buterfield going the other way in the deal.
The surprise departure of Terriers boss Mark Robins less than 24 hours after the first match might have derailed any deal to bring Clayton to Teesside.
But the move went through and his first game could be against one of his old clubs as Boro visit Leeds on Saturday.
Clayton said: “It can be unsettling if you don’t know where you were going.
“But I’ve know where I was going to be since last Monday. We tried to get it through for Saturday’s game, but that didn’t happen, so there was no rush. “There was just a lot to sort out with Jacob (Butterfield) going the other way. It was all rather complicated.
“Now I can’t wait to get the shirt on and get going.”
The 25-year old went on : “I got a nice frosty reception there when I went with Huddersfield (to Leeds), I can’t imagine it will be any different with Boro. It would be nice to start with a goal at Leeds.”
Clayton adde: “I enjoyed my two years at Huddersfield. Jacob will find a great little club run by good people and the lads there are top notch, if they get it right they’ll be all right, once they sort of the managerial situation.”
“That’s one of the reasons this has dragged on a bit, there were complications. Finally we’re over the line. Let’s push on, get in the play offs, no, why not top two?”
Clayton says Head Coach Aitor Karanka was one of the reasons he moved to the Riverside.
“He’s definitely part of the reason I came, a large part. I want to challenge myself every day. I don’t want to be in a team where you know you’ll be in no matter how you play. The manager was probably one of the biggest factors. He’s top class, all the lads are really behind him and there’s a bit of a buzz around the place about what we could achieve this
