Dimi Konstantopoulos 'not going anywhere' as Middlesbrough boss weighs up goalkeeper conundrum

Boro will allow either Tomas Mejias or former Hartlepool United stopper Konstantopoulos to leave the Riverside after bringing in Victor Valdes and Brad Guzan this summer.

Crowd favourite Konstantopoulos was the club's number one last season as they gained promotion back to the Premier League but he will struggle to make the matchday squad this year after Boro moved to strengthen their goalkeeping options.

Karanka doesn't think the club needs four keepers on the books but it remains unclear which of the two will be allowed to leave, with interested clubs having already made contact with Boro about their availability.

"I don’t know which keeper (will leave)," Karanka told the Evening Gazette.

"Once again, we need to take the best decision for everybody, the three keepers who will be here and for the keeper who will leave.

"At the end, once again, I want and I hope that everybody will be happy."

It comes as the Greek stopper took to social media to laugh off suggestions he had stormed out of training today - the players were on a day off - while adding he doesn't intend to go anywhere.

In response to one Boro fan on Twitter, Konstantopoulos tweeted: "I am not going anywhere mate."

Former Barcelona and Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes is firm favourite to start as first choice after starting recent friendlies against Aston Villa and Sociedad.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough have released their squad numbers ahead of the new Premier League season which kicks-off this weekend with the visit of Stoke City to the Riverside.
