Middlesbrough have finally confirmed the signing of Uruguayan striker Cristian Stuani for £3.6m - and he could make his debut against Preston.
Boro have been waiting for his international clearance to be confirmed after originally signing his contract on July 20.
A club statement read: “Middlesbrough Football Club are now in a position to confirm that Stuani has this morning received international clearance to join the club.
“What has been a protracted waiting game involving confederations and clubs from other countries came to an end when the FA confirmed this morning that the 28-year old Uruguayan international striker has been given clearance to play.”
He will be given squad number 18 for the forthcoming season.
Stuani has signed a contract to keep him at Boro until 2019 and the striker has been able to train with the squad while all parties have waited for a mound of paperwork to clear.
And Stuani, who has 22 caps for his country, could make his debut in the opening game of the Championship against Preston North End.
