FORMER Middlesbrough striker Mido has retired at the age of 30.

The controversial Egyptian, signed by the Teessiders for £6million in August 2007 (having been strongly linked with Sunderland prior to the deal), managed only 25 games for Boro and had four loan stints away from the club.

In all, the striker represented 11 clubs in seven countries, also including Tottenham, Ajax and Barnsley, and won more than 50 caps. He wrote on Twitter: “I would like to thank everyone who supported me during my career and especially all my fans.”

Boro, meanwhile, will host French club Bordeaux in a Riverside friendly on July 27.
