Middlesbrough skipper Matthew Bates hoping to conquer injury this summer

INJURY-HIT Middlesbrough skipper Matthew Bates can make progress towards regaining his fitness over the summer.

Bates visited a specialist in London to have his Achilles problem examined.

And Boro boss Tony Mowbray said: “Matthew has been to London to be assessed.

“The good news is that there is no major problem, though there are a few things he will have to work on. It’s all about managing it.”

Fellow defender Seb Hines is recovering from minor ankle surgery.
