Stewart Downing says goals will come from him at Middlesbrough – but insists it does not matter who scores as long as Boro are winning.

Boro have a fair start to the Sky Bet Championship, currently standing sixth on eight points, with just one defeat from the opening five league games.

I think the main thing is that we are winning games and we’re all chipping in with goals

They are also through to the third round of the Capital One Cup but, as yet, Downing has not found the net since his £5-million summer switch from West Ham back to his hometown club.

However, the 31-year-old is not concerned, especially given Kike and Cristhian Stuani have been on target, the latter bagging five since his transfer from Espanyol for £3.6million this summer.

“I’ve been unlucky a couple of times and the keeper has made a few good saves,” the attacking midfielder said in an interview on BBC Tees.

“It will come, I will keep getting chances.

“I think the main thing is that we are winning games and we’re all chipping in with goals.

“It’s nice the new lads have come in and scored. The pressure is on strikers to score.

“It will come from me, but as long as we’re winning, that’s the main thing.”
