Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray rallies Teessiders for FA Cup replay against Sunderland
Barry Robson and Scott McDonald celebrate Boro's goal against Sunderland.
MIDDLESBROUGH boss Tony Mowbray is calling on Teessiders to give Sunderland a noisy reception in their FA Cup replay, writes Mark Thompson.
He admitted he was dealing with a “disappointed” dressing room after his side let a one goal lead slip at the Stadium of Light.
Now Mowbray is hoping a big crowd at the Riverside next week will be enough to force his side through to the final 16 and a glamorous tie with Arsenal.
“We’ve been better on the road than at home this year,” said Mowbray, who didn’t sit down for the full 90 minutes as he urged his players on.
“We’ve found it difficult to win at the Riverside.
“But hopefully with a good atmosphere in a derby, and knowing what will be on offer in the next round, we can make it a great occasion.”
Mowbray felt a draw was a fair result, but felt his side missed a few chances to make it 2-0 before the equaliser came.
He said: “In the second half a few things fell for us, and a clinical finish or ricochet could have got us the goal.
“In the first half-hour, it was a bit attritional like a derby game can be, but we got the goal on the break, and maybe should have had a second on half-time.
“But great credit to the players as in the second half they got stronger.”
